PAST EVENTS OF THE NORTH BANK

A dual-themed installation ensemble bridging land and sea history, utilizing weathering steel and mirror stainless steel to recontextualize Ningbo's railway and maritime heritage.

SCROLL

PAST EVENTS OF THE NORTH BANK

Located on the former site of the Ningbo Railway Station, "Past Events of the North Bank" is a profound artistic dialogue between industrial remnants and the flowing river. This ensemble features two primary structures: a 12-meter weathering steel locomotive symbolizing the heavy texture of the steam era, and a 12.8-meter mirror-polished fishing boat representing the city’s maritime vitality. The installation meticulously embeds historical photographs into the metal surfaces through etching and lacquer painting, creating a "slice of history" effect. The contrast between the rugged, rusted surface of the train and the shimmering, hammered texture of the boat captures the duality of Ningbo as a land transport hub and a legendary fishing port. It serves as a poetic cultural landmark that preserves collective memories while revitalizing the industrial waterfront into a modern public living room.
